Bellingham, who joined Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, made an immediate impact, scoring his goal in the 36th minute. The England midfielder met David Alaba’s corner with a powerful header that bounced over the goalkeeper and into the net.
Rodrygo had opened the scoring for Madrid in the 28th minute, finishing off a flowing move that involved Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior.
Madrid controlled the game for most of the second half, but they were unable to add to their lead. However, they did enough to secure a comfortable victory and get their season off to a winning start.
Bellingham was one of the standout performers for Madrid on his debut. He was energetic and mobile in midfield, and he showed great composure to score his goal. He is sure to be a key player for Madrid this season.

Other players who impressed for Madrid included Benzema, Vinicius Junior, and Luka Modric. Benzema was a constant threat in attack, Vinicius Junior was lively on the wing, and Modric was his usual elegant self in midfield.
Athletic Bilbao gave a good account of themselves, but they were ultimately undone by the quality of Madrid’s attacking players. They will be disappointed not to have taken anything from the game, but they will take heart from their performance.
The result leaves Madrid top of the La Liga table after the first round of fixtures. They will be looking to build on this result when they travel to Elche next weekend.
