Actor Jamie Foxx has apologized after an Instagram post he shared was accused of being antisemitic.
The post, which was shared on Sunday, featured a photo of Foxx with a group of friends. The caption read, “Fake friends are like shadows. They follow you in the sun but leave you in the dark.”

Some people on social media interpreted the post as being antisemitic, pointing to the fact that the shadows in the photo were shaped like Stars of David.
Foxx quickly deleted the post and apologized, saying that he did not intend to offend anyone.
“I am sorry if my post offended anyone,” he said in a statement. “That was not my intention. I am not antisemitic in any way, shape or form.”
Foxx is not the first celebrity to be accused of antisemitism on social media. In 2018, actor Mel Gibson was criticized for posting a photo of a Star of David with the caption, “History repeats itself.”

Gibson later apologized, saying that he did not mean to offend anyone.

The ADL said that the rise in antisemitic incidents on social media is likely due to the fact that it is a platform where people can easily spread hate speech without fear of repercussions.
