Johnny Hardwick, Voice of Dale Gribble on ‘King of the Hill,’ Dies at 64

Johnny Hardwick, the voice actor who brought the paranoid conspiracy theorist Dale Gribble to life on the animated sitcom “King of the Hill,” has died. He was 64.

Hardwick’s death was announced on his Twitter account on Thursday. The cause of death was not disclosed.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Johnny Hardwick,” the tweet read. “He was a brilliant actor, writer, and director, and his work on ‘King of the Hill’ will be remembered for generations to come.”

Hardwick’s voice acting career spanned over three decades. He also voiced characters on the animated shows “The Tick,” “SpongeBob SquarePants,” and “The Powerpuff Girls.” He also had a recurring role on the live-action sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle.”

In addition to his voice acting work, Hardwick was also a writer and director. He wrote and directed the short film “The Ballad of Little Jo” in 2002. He also wrote for the animated series “The Oblongs” and “The Critic.”

Hardwick was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 1959. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in theater. He began his career as a stage actor in Los Angeles.
