Stoliarenko, who had previously competed at bantamweight and featherweight, looked right at home at 125 pounds. She used her grappling to great effect, taking McCann down early and then locking in an armbar. McCann refused to tap, but the referee had no choice but to stop the fight.
After the win, Stoliarenko was all smiles. She said she felt great at flyweight and that she was excited to continue her career in the division.
“I love myself at flyweight,” Stoliarenko said. “I love it. I love how my body is moving at flyweight. I feel so strong and so fast.”
Stoliarenko’s win was a major upset. McCann was the No. 10-ranked flyweight in the world, while Stoliarenko was unranked. But Stoliarenko showed that she is a force to be reckoned with at 125 pounds.
