Lorenzen, 31, is a two-time All-Star who has been a valuable two-way player for the Tigers this season. He has started 18 games and made 10 relief appearances, posting a 3.58 ERA with 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings. He is also a capable pinch-hitter, batting .270 with two home runs and 10 RBIs this season.

Castro, 23, is a young, up-and-coming prospect who has shown some power potential in the Pirates’ minor league system. He is batting .277 with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs this season at Triple-A Indianapolis. He is also a switch-hitter, which gives the Phillies some much-needed depth from the right side of the plate.

The Phillies are currently in second place in the National League East, and they are looking to add some depth to their bullpen and their lineup in order to make a run at the playoffs. Lorenzen and Castro should both be able to contribute immediately, and they give the Phillies a boost in both areas.
