Liverpool ended their preseason with a 3-1 victory over Bundesliga side SV Darmstadt 98 on Monday at Deepdale Stadium — home of Championship club Preston North End.
Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota scored two goals apiece for the Reds, who were dominant throughout the match. Mathias Honsak scored a consolation goal for Darmstadt in the second half.
The win was Liverpool’s third in a row in preseason, and it gave them a good boost of confidence ahead of the start of the Premier League season next weekend.
Salah was in particularly good form, scoring two goals and setting up Jota for his first. The Egyptian forward is looking to build on his incredible 2022-23 season, in which he scored 31 goals in the Premier League.
Jota also had a good game, scoring two goals and linking up well with Salah and Luis Diaz. The Portuguese forward is expected to be a key player for Liverpool this season, and he will be looking to build on his 15 goals in all competitions last season.
Darmstadt were no match for Liverpool on Monday, and they were lucky to get a goal. The German side have just been promoted to the Bundesliga, and they will need to improve significantly if they want to avoid relegation this season.
Overall, it was a good performance from Liverpool on Monday, and they will be hoping to carry that form into the new season. They start their Premier League campaign against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on August 13th.
