Twitter’s “X” Sign Under Investigation for Lack of Permits

San Francisco, CA (July 30, 2023) – Twitter’s new “X” sign, which was installed on the roof of the company’s headquarters in San Francisco as part of its recent rebranding, is under investigation by the city for lacking proper permits.

According to officials with the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection, a building permit is required to make sure the sign is structurally sound and installed safely. Planning review and approval is also necessary for the installation of this sign.

“We are aware of the investigation and are working with the city to obtain the necessary permits,” a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement. “We take our obligations to the city seriously and are committed to complying with all applicable laws and regulations.”

The “X” sign is a large, red neon sign that measures approximately 20 feet by 20 feet. It was installed on Friday, July 29, and has since become a popular tourist attraction.

The investigation into the “X” sign comes at a time when Twitter is facing increasing scrutiny from regulators. In recent months, the company has been fined by the Securities and Exchange Commission for misleading investors about its user growth.

It is unclear what the consequences will be for Twitter if the company is found to have violated building codes. However, the investigation could damage the company’s reputation and lead to further regulatory scrutiny.
