World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) boss Vince McMahon has been hit with a federal grand jury subpoena and search warrant in connection with an ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct.

The company disclosed the legal moves in a regulatory filing on Wednesday. They mark an escalation of the investigation into McMahon, who left the company last year but returned in January.
The allegations against McMahon first surfaced in June, when the Wall Street Journal reported that he had paid $3 million to a former employee to keep quiet about an affair they had. The Journal also reported that McMahon had allegedly made similar payments to other women.

WWE’s board of directors launched an investigation into the allegations, and McMahon stepped down from his position as CEO while the investigation was ongoing.
The federal investigation is being conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice. It is unclear what specific allegations are being investigated, but the subpoena and search warrant suggest that the DOJ is taking the allegations seriously.
McMahon has denied any wrongdoing. In a statement released by WWE, he said that he is “confident that the government’s investigation will be resolved without any findings of wrongdoing.”
The investigation into McMahon is the latest in a series of scandals to hit WWE in recent years. In 2022, the company was fined $1 million by the U.S. government for failing to properly investigate allegations of sexual misconduct against former wrestler Hulk Hogan.
