A popular YouTube streamer is facing a riot charge after an event he organized in Union Square Park on Friday devolved into chaos.

Kai Cenat, who has over 9 million followers on YouTube and Twitch, had promised to give away free game consoles to fans who showed up at the park. However, the event quickly turned into a mob scene, with thousands of people converging on the park and police struggling to control the crowd.

Videos from the scene showed people throwing objects, climbing on cars, and setting off fireworks. Police said that at least one officer was injured in the melee.

Cenat was taken into custody by police and charged with inciting a riot and unlawful assembly. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

The incident has raised questions about the safety of large events in public spaces, particularly when they are organized by social media influencers. It is also a reminder of the potential for violence that can be unleashed when large crowds gather.
